Black Onyx

Onyx is a type of agate. Agates are composed of mycrocrystalline quartz and vary tremendously in color. Agates are usually banded, and named according to their appearance. Black onyx is darkly opaque. Often it is dyed black to reduce color inconsistencies. Onyx is relatively common, and occurs in volcanic cavities in many parts of the world.
