Celtic Mythology and History

When we consider the notion of 'heart' this Valentine’s Day, it is easy, in our world where commodity is valued over humanity, to be too small in our hearts-- falling into the illusion that our entire life is cast like a shadow against a cave wall. 

In Celtic Spiritual tradition, it is believed that the soul radiates all about the physical body, what some refer to as an aura. When you connect with another person and become completely open and trusting with that individual, your two souls begin to flow together. Should such a deep bond be formed, it is said you have found your Anam Cara or soul friend.

Celtic spirituality exudes a sense of joyful gratitude that is often absent from our lives.  Gratitude is one of the key Celtic virtues.  Thanksgiving is the virtue of interdependence.  It recognizes that we stand on the shoulders of others.  Without the support of elders, family, friends, and teachers, we would be lost.   

When most Americans think about Easter, they think about the Great Easter Bunny, distributing toys, candy and gifts to the little ones, while others think of it as the Day that Christ was resurrected and eventually re-ascended to Heaven. Yet the history and lore of Easter is far richer than either of these two paradigms.
